As spring arrives, many chapters have already begun planning their activities. I encourage you all to volunteer, participate, and invite your friends to get involved in your local chapter’s events. Take pride in sharing the impact you’ve made and encourage others to join us as TNF patrons. The strength of an organization lies in its membership, so if you haven't yet become a life member, I encourage you to consider doing so today.
A big thank you to everyone who participated in the voting for the proposed bylaw changes. Your support was invaluable, and we are pleased to announce that the proposed changes have been successfully passed and updated.
I am also delighted to share that we have successfully concluded the election of our new board members who will take charge during TNF51. Thiru S. Rajarethinam I.A.S. is a well-known figure among all TNF patrons. Many of us have had the opportunity to interact with him during his 14-year tenure at TNF Chennai. Under his leadership, TNF has experienced significant growth and expanded its reach to various corners of Tamil Nadu through numerous impactful projects. His unwavering commitment to uplifting the underprivileged and his determination to do whatever it takes make him an exceptional role model for all of us. As he steps down from his role as Chairman of TNF Chennai, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for his hard work, dedication, support, and the encouragement he has provided to all TNF patrons.

Thiru. S. Rajarethinam I.A.S. (Retd.) (1979 Batch), holding a Master’s in Economics and a Bachelor of Law, retired from service upon superannuation in November 2007. He later served as Secretary to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on reemployment until May 2011. Over his distinguished 40-year career, he held several key positions, including District Collector, Inspector General of Registration, Commissioner of Collegiate Education, and Secretary to the Government in various departments such as Housing and Urban Development, Tourism, Environment and Forests, Public Works, and Commercial Taxes. He played a pivotal role in initiating numerous reforms, implementing people-friendly measures, and contributing to developmental and eco-friendly projects.
After his retirement and reemployment, he became a Trustee at the Tamil Nadu Foundation (TNF), where he focused on executing educational and humanitarian projects across the state. He has served as the Chairman of TNF since 2017, and his tenure will conclude in March 2025, marking a record of eight consecutive years of service. Additionally, he served as a Trustee at the Sundaram Medical Foundation, funded by the TVS Companies. His dedication to aiding the underprivileged and deserving in areas such as skill development, education, health, and hygiene is evident through his efforts to raise awareness and empower communities.
His significant contributions during various calamity relief efforts, including flood relief (2015, 2024), Gaja relief, and COVID-19 support, are noteworthy. In recognition of his exceptional service, the Tamil Nadu Foundation, USA, awarded him the “Service Excellence Award” at the Atlanta Convention in 2019.

Women Empowerment - Skill Development Training
|
The inauguration of the skill development training for women on Aari works and hand embroidery at Perumbakkam took place on 28th February 2025. The event was graced by Thiru S. Rajarethinam, Chairman of TNF India, along with Trustees Dr. Sylendra Babu, Thiru V. Varadharaju, and TNF India CEO Dr. Ka Ilango. This training is designed for 25 women who previously received basic tailoring training at TNF's Perumbakkam tailoring unit. They will now advance their skills by undergoing Aari works training.
The total cost of the training, amounting to ₹ 3,85,750/-, will be provided by the Apparel Training & Design Centre (ATDC). Special thanks go to the Austin chapter for their continued support of women empowerment projects.

TNF donates exam preparatory books
|
TNF donated books and furniture worth ₹ 3,83,670/- to Thiruvarur district library in the presence of District Collector of Thiruvarar, Thiru. V Mohanan Chandran. A total of 911 books spanning a variety of subjects, including preparatory materials for competitive exams such as NMMS, RRB, TRB, UPSC and SSC along with NCERT text books for higher secondary students were donated using the funds raised from Sarathi Public Charitable Trust as part of TNF USA's 50th year Convention Fund. This initiative is aimed at enhancing students experience at libraries and promote education.

10th grade students get exam kits
|
|
Exam kits were distributed to a total 240 students preparing to appear for 10th grade public examination from Greater Chennai Higher Secondary School, Shenoy Nagar and Government Boys Higher Secondary School, East Mogappair. Both the schools are supported by Bay Area chapter under ABC project.

Thiru. D. Sivasailam, former President of TNF, and his wife, Dr. Sankari, visited the ABC Project in the Tirunelveli and Tenkasi districts, which is supported by the Washington D.C. Chapter. During their visit, they distributed Thirukkural books to the students of the ABC Project. Additionally, the donors encouraged the students to read at least one Kural each day and share its meaning in class. A total 775 books were procured for schools across 3 districts including Thoothukudi, where the books will be distributed soon.

TNF helps students beat heat wave
|
To help students cope with the intense summer heat, umbrellas were distributed to 70 students at Panchayat Union Middle School in Kovilur, Thiruvannamalai District. Additionally, 50 umbrellas are planned to be distributed to children visiting the Nerkuppai and Katpadi Libraries. The total cost of the umbrellas was Rs. 43,440/-, funded through the VTK Memorial Fund.

Austin Youth host NxGen again
|
|
What began as a simple idea for a half-day youth education session two years ago has now evolved into an annual conference that Austin's youth eagerly anticipate. Staying true to our LOVES theme for youth activities, the conference provides a platform for youth to host an event for the youth, by the youth. With the support of Austin Chapter leaders and volunteers, the Austin Youth LOVES Club successfully hosted its 2nd annual youth conference, TNF NxGen. The TNF South Florida Chapter hosted a highly successful Valentine’s Day Charity Gala on February 22, 2025, bringing the community together for an unforgettable evening of entertainment and philanthropy. The event featured lively performances, touching moments, and generous contributions from attendees and donors, highlighting the Chapter’s commitment to supporting education and community welfare in Tamil Nadu.

Special attention was given to the Youth LOVES Club of the South Florida Chapter, whose efforts have been instrumental in supporting impactful initiatives, such as the Feminine Hygiene Project at the Government Tribal Residential Higher Secondary School in Arunuthumalai. The Chapter also launched the Youth Club Incubator Program, designed to empower young entrepreneurs with the resources and mentorship needed to transform their business ideas into successful ventures.
Several patrons from the South Florida Chapter sponsor initiatives across these schools. Notably, Mrs. Renuka Palanisamy sponsors the Government Boys Higher Secondary School in Mecheri, and Mr. Arul Murugan sponsors the Government Tribal Residential Higher Secondary School in Arunuthumalai. Mrs. Malathi Palaniappa and Mr. Madhu Chandrashekar also support the ABC Project at a government school in the Nagapattinam District.
Proceeds from the gala will support key initiatives in Tamil Nadu, including:

The TNF Bay Area Chapter’s Spring Soirée on March 15 was a memorable evening filled with generosity, delicious food, and lively entertainment, raising approximately $32K to expand the nutritional breakfast supplement project to more schools and students!
Around 230 guests were treated to inspiring words from Mr. M. R. Rangaswami (Founder of Indiaspora, CEF, & Sand Hill Group), exquisite wines from V5 Vineyards, a mouthwatering dinner from Annachi Kadai, and vibrant entertainment by the local Tamil Light Music band, Jazzmine.

Summer Internship applications open
|
Each summer, many high school students visiting India take the opportunity to serve as interns at TNF's ABC schools. This year, we plan to expand this offering beyond the ABC schools, where possible. Applications for the 2025 summer internship are now open.

We often receive requests to customize the program, and while we understand the logistical challenges of planning a trip to India, we kindly ask for your understanding and flexibility, as there are also logistical challenges on the facilitator's end.
