President's Remarks - Behind Every Number, a Story

Dear TNF Family,

Vanakkam!

We often describe TNF’s impact through numbers — students supported, schools reached, villages served, and dollars raised. Those numbers are important. They help us measure our progress and demonstrate the scale of what we accomplish together. But numbers alone do not tell the whole story. Behind every scholarship is a student with a dream. Behind every school project are children with new opportunities to learn. Behind every women empowerment initiative is a family moving toward greater independence. And behind every project is a community hoping for a better tomorrow. Behind every number, there is a story worth telling.

These stories remind us why we do what we do. A donation may begin as a transaction, but its impact continues long after the contribution is made. A scholarship can change the direction of a student’s life. An improvement to a school can benefit generations of children. An opportunity given to one woman can strengthen an entire family. As donors and volunteers, we may not always get to meet the people whose lives we touch, but their journeys are an important part of our own TNF story. When we hear their voices and understand their experiences, the connection between giving and impact becomes real.

As we look ahead, I would like TNF to do more to bring these stories to you not only through reports and statistics, but through the voices and experiences of the people and communities we serve. Through Eegai, our website, videos, social media, and other channels, we hope to help you see more closely where your generosity goes and what it makes possible. Because ultimately, TNF’s story is not written in spreadsheets or annual reports. It is written in the lives that are changed — and those are the stories we want to tell.

With gratitude,
Mani Periakaruppan
President, Tamil Nadu Foundation USA

A Clearer Vision for ABC Children

Celebrating Independence by Empowering the Next Generation

As part of the Independence Day celebrations, TNF continued its commitment to empowering students through education, recognition and opportunity across the ABC Project schools. The VTK Memorial Educational and Service Award was presented to 10 outstanding students who demonstrated both academic excellence and service to society. Each recipient received a Fixed Deposit certificate of Rs. 20,000, with the number of awardees increased from 5 to 10 this year in recognition of the growing number of ABC Project schools and the positive impact of the award in encouraging academic achievement and healthy competition.

The celebrations also highlighted TNF’s continued support for higher education. Through the Savithiri Rani and Venkatachalam Educational Scholarship Project, six deserving students pursuing degree courses received scholarships ranging from 12,000 to 15,000.

One inspiring example is M. Santhosh, a former TNF ABC student who scored 491 marks in Class 10 and stood first in SAV Boys Higher Secondary School, Thoothukudi.

This Independence Day, TNF celebrates not only freedom, but also the aspirations, achievements and potential of the next generation investing in students today to build a stronger tomorrow.

Village School Front Yard Gets a Facelift

Pudumathur Panchayat Union Primary School in Thanjavur District received a much-needed transformation to its front yard. Previously covered with natural clay sand and rendered unusable even after light rain, the space now has a paved surface, thanks to an individual donor from the TNF Chicago Chapter. The improved space enables children to safely participate in prayers, ceremonies, play activities, and outdoor learning.

Making Every Drop of Water Count

The Ripple Effect Project at Government High School, Sengamangalam, Thanjavur District, is helping improve students’ access to safe drinking water and better hygiene facilities.During the visit of Selvan Nathan and his parents from the South Florida Chapter on 23 July 2026, 140 students received personalized 1-litre stainless steel water bottles. A 100-litre RO water plant and hand-wash basin were also installed. With an investment of ₹ 1,04,435, the project is a meaningful step toward improving the health and well-being of the students.

Empowering Young Minds: The RIYA Digital Literacy Program

Launched on August 10, 2026, at Government Model Higher Secondary School, Arumbakkam, the RIYA Digital Literacy Program provides AI education to 45 girl students. Funded by ₹ 4,75,500 donation from Florida, USA, the initiative features three daily 1.5 hour sessions covering AI fundamentals, responsible usage, algorithms, and digital safety. The encouraging response has opened strong possibilities to expand the program and empower more students with essential future skills.

North East Ohio Steps 2 Success

The North East Ohio community came together on August 9th for the Steps 2 Success Walkathon, organized by the North East Ohio Chapter of the Tamil Nadu Foundation (TNF), to support underprivileged children in Tamil Nadu.

The initiative builds on the chapter’s ongoing support for ABC schools while expanding its reach to provide footwear for children in Kolli Hills, Namakkal District, many of whom walk barefoot to school and elsewhere in the scorching heat.

The day began with an energetic Zumba warm-up, followed by a scenic walk through the natural heritage preserve. Participants returned to a traditional South Indian breakfast while the chapter committee shared updates on the impact of their continued support and the difference it is making in children’s lives.

The event combined service with fun and community fellowship. A lighthearted bingo trivia game featuring questions about TNF and Tamil Nadu kept participants engaged and added plenty of laughter to the morning.

Youth engagement was another highlight. A TNF Young Adult & Emerging Professionals (YAEP) Committee member home for summer led a youth session where Youth LOVES volunteers shared their experiences with TNF’s youth programs. Young volunteers who went beyond simply earning volunteer hours and demonstrated exceptional commitment to service were recognized.

The event concluded with the launch of the North East Ohio TNF Youth LOVES Club and the TNF Recycle Warriors Project, creating new avenues for young people and families to volunteer, serve and make a meaningful difference in their communities.

The walkathon was more than a fitness event—it brought the community together around a shared commitment to helping children take their next steps toward a brighter future. We thank all the volunteers, donors and sponsors who continue to support our efforts.
