President's Remarks - My TNF!
|
Dear TNF Family,
Vanakkam!
Every one of us has a unique TNF story. For some, it began with sponsoring a project or supporting a student. For others, it started with attending a convention, volunteering at a chapter event, or simply believing in our mission. Whatever the beginning, those individual experiences become part of something much larger—a shared journey of transforming lives through Tamil Nadu Foundation. Every contribution, every act of service, and every shared experience becomes part of our own TNF journey. That is why I believe every one of us should be able to proudly say, "This is My TNF."
As part of TNF PRISM, we are working to make that journey more personal, transparent, and meaningful. Because every TNF journey is unique, every TNF story deserves to be remembered. In the coming months, we will begin introducing My TNF—a personalized digital experience designed to bring your relationship with TNF together in one place. You will be able to view your donations, the projects and initiatives you have supported, your convention participation, chapter affiliation, membership information, and much more. More importantly, My TNF is about more than information. It is about helping every member, donor, volunteer, and supporter see the difference they have made over the years. It is about preserving your personal TNF story and strengthening your connection to an organization that you have helped shape.
This is only the beginning. My vision is for My TNF to continue evolving into a lifelong record of each member's TNF journey—a place where your generosity, service, leadership, and impact come together in one meaningful experience. As we continue building tomorrow's TNF, I believe My TNF will become one of the defining ways we strengthen transparency, engagement, and lifelong relationships across our organization. My hope is that, when you look back on your own TNF journey and the lives you have helped transform, you will feel an even greater sense of pride in saying, "This is My TNF."

Sewing the Seeds of Self-Reliance

Twenty-five deserving women who successfully completed tailoring training at the TNF-run tailoring unit in Perumbakkam received sewing machines on July 7, 2026. The distribution, supported by the TNF Austin Chapter at a total cost of Rs. 1,74,638, aims to help the beneficiaries become self-reliant and earn a sustainable livelihood.
The sewing machines were distributed by Dr. C. Sylendra Babu, I.P.S. (Retd.), Chairman of TNF, in the presence of Tmt. Alamu Alagappan, Chairperson of the TNF Austin Chapter, Tmt. Kavitha, Treasurer, TNF, Dr. Ka. Ilango, Chief Executive Officer, TNF, and Tmt. Vasumathi Benny, Executive Director, TNF.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sylendra Babu highlighted the importance of skill development in empowering women and encouraged the trainees to make the best use of the sewing machines. He emphasized that dedication and hard work would enable them to achieve financial independence and eventually become entrepreneurs. Tmt. Alamu Alagappan interacted with the beneficiaries, appreciated the quality of their Aari work, and congratulated them on completing the training.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to the Tamil Nadu Foundation Chicago and Austin Chapters for their continued support. They said the sewing machines would play a vital role in strengthening their livelihoods and creating new opportunities for self-employment.

From Cuddalore to Ariyalur - Women Empowerment project expands

A skill development initiative supported by the TNF Chicago Chapter is empowering women in Kurinjipadi, Cuddalore District, through a self-employment tailoring program. Two batches comprising 60 women are nearing completion of their training and will receive joint certificates from ATDC and TNF. The trainees have also been assured of employment in nearby garment manufacturing units upon successful completion of the course.
Encouraged by the program's success, a third batch is set to begin after the current trainees complete their assessments conducted by an independent evaluation agency. The initiative has also inspired women from neighboring Ariyalur District to enroll in similar training. Responding to this growing demand, the TNF Pittsburgh Chapter has committed funding of Rs. 23,60,200 to train 60 women in Ariyalur in a Fashion Designer course, which is scheduled to commence in the first fortnight of August 2026.

TNF Pittsburgh Youth Bring Smiles to Seniors

On July 24, 2026, sixteen youth volunteers from Tamil Nadu Foundation (TNF) Pittsburgh spent a memorable afternoon at Genesis Rehabilitation Center in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania, connecting with nearly 40 senior residents through service, companionship, and entertainment. Organized by Sai Gunapalli and Sahana Karthikeyan, in collaboration with the TNF Pittsburgh Youth LOVES Coordinator, the visit highlighted the power of meaningful intergenerational connections.
Throughout the afternoon, the volunteers assisted residents with daily activities, engaged them in heartfelt conversations, and listened to their life stories. They also served ice cream during the center's ice cream social, creating a fun and welcoming atmosphere. To make the day even more special, each resident received a rose and a handmade greeting card. The beautifully crafted cards, created by Nethra Balaji, along with the flowers, brought smiles to the seniors and reminded them they were valued and remembered.
The visit also featured an impressive youth talent showcase that delighted the residents. Performances included violin recitals by Avanthika Pradeep and Nethra Balaji; karate demonstrations by Krishiv Balaji, Laya, and Aranya Raja; vocal performances by Sahana Karthikeyan and Devahansha Jeyachandran; Indian classical dance performances by Rithanya Sasikumar, Nabanya Raja, and Ragashri; a magic show by Arya Subash; and an interactive riddles session led by Dhuruvan Pradeep. The seniors enthusiastically applauded every performance, making the event a joyful and memorable experience for both generations.
The visit exemplified TNF's commitment to fostering youth leadership through community service. By sharing their time, talents, and compassion, the young volunteers created meaningful moments of connection and joy, leaving a lasting impression on the residents and demonstrating how simple acts of kindness can make a profound difference.

UPLIFT Project
Selvi P.D. Vibisha, a student from a tribal community in Kanyakumari District, is pursuing an MBBS degree at a private medical college in Thiruvallur District. She received a scholarship of Rs. 3,00,000 during the 2024–2025 academic year through the TNF USA – 50th Convention Fund. In 2025–2026, she was awarded Rs. 2,00,000 with support from the TNF Central Illinois Chapter. She has now received another scholarship of Rs. 2,00,000 for her fourth year through UPLIFT, funded by the TNF Central Illinois Chapter. These scholarships continue to support her medical education.
Adopt a Student Project
This project supports students in Thoothukudi District who have lost their parents. Five students have been receiving financial assistance for the past two years. One of them, Selvan M. Shanmugasundaram, is now pursuing a B.Com degree in Thiruchendur and continues to receive a scholarship for his college education.
