In recent years, many young Indian Americans have had the opportunity to serve as interns at government schools in Tamil Nadu. This life-altering experience has enlightened them to step up, recognize their privilege, and want to help be part of the positive change. The impact of their experiences led them to innovate TAYMAI grants where funds were directed toward issues that student interns identified. Now, TNF youth members, who have experienced the satisfaction of giving back, want to expand and encourage more students to begin thinking about the charitable roles they can play as the next generation of Tamil Americans by means of an essay contest.
Though the benefits of participating in this essay contest are enough of itself, an added bonus is that recent high school and college graduates will be available to provide feedback on the essays, as well as encouragement and support to students yet to embark on the college journey. We hope all the children of the TNF supporter families will take advantage of this opportunity to learn more about TNF's mission, better refine their essay writing skills, gain invaluable knowledge about the path to college admittance, and of course to attempt to win the prize!
