Empowering women - a great way to celebrate Women's History Month
|
March is celebrated as Women's History month across the world. At TNF, we launched a Tailoring training program on March 2nd 2023 in the basement of TNF Chennai building. Per a MoU signed between TNF India and Apparel Training and Design Center (ATDC supported by Government of India) last year, the 12 week advanced training will benefit women living under poverty line in the nearby areas of TNF Chennai office.
With the completion of the 13th batch of trainees at the Tailoring unit, Perumbakkam, a total of 222 women from resettlement area of Perumbakkam have benefitted so far. The 14th batch will commence tomorrow.
We are also working on establishing a tailoring unit, in partnership with ATDC, near Chettipalayam to benefit the mothers/sisters of students attending Global Pathway School. TNF Austin has come forward to support this initiative.

Educating Visually Impaired Girl students with Assistive Devices
|
|
Educational assistive devices were distributed to 50 visually impaired girls pursuing school and college education during a program organized by National Association for Visually Impaired at Presidency College, Chennai. The device will help the students in preparing for their examination. A second set of 50 devices will be distributed soon.

Kits for students getting ready for exams
|
|
In response to the requests received from ABC School Headmasters, TNF Bay Area sponsored a project to distribute examination kit comprising of pen, pencil, eraser, rule and protractor, all packed in a pouch, to 82 students at Government Boys High School, East Mogappair, Chennai. An additional 155 kits will be distributed to students at Chennai Higher Secondary School, Aminjikarai, Shenoy Nagar, Chennai in the coming week.

ABC Project - Current Academic year in numbers
|
Slow Learners Coaching
- Since June 2022, 18,929 students have been evaluated for their learning proficiency across 89 schools via baseline tests.
- Out of the 18,929 students attending 6th grade through 9th grade, 5431 students were identified as slow learners. This number is high compared to previous years owing to the impact on learning ability due to Covid break.
- A total of 127 teachers have been appointed to coach the students.
- Regular monitoring is done by Project coordinators and students are evaluated through monthly tests on a continuous basis. As of Feb 2023, 1192 students have moved to regular class.
Soft Skills Training
- Since April 2022, 6132 students have participated in soft skills training held in 75 schools out of 80 eligible schools for training across 25 districts.
Exposure Visit/Career Guidance Program
- As part of ABC project exposure visits are organized for students attending 11th and 12th grades to nearby colleges.
- 142 students in Cuddalore district toured Annamalai University and are motivated to pursue higher studies.
- 93 students from Government Boys Higher Secondary School visited SRM University, Chennai.
- In schools where the logistics to organize a tour is not feasible, career guidance programs are conducted. During this program, faculty from nearby colleges provide orientation to students on different disciplines offered, available scholarships and college facilities. A total of 2732 students from 38 schools benefitted with this program.

Presidential Volunteer Service Award - 2023 registration is open
|
|
TNF is a certifying organization to recognize volunteers. More than ten youngsters across three chapters spent hours volunteering in TNF activities and in their local community and qualify to receive the Presidential Volunteer Service Award.
