It has been a month since our new TNF Executive team has taken office and I am happy to inform you all that we have had a smooth transition. Once the TN schools reopened after summer break, our ABC program started off routinely. As we all get settled in our roles, I would like to share the current update on our projects.
- Added two new schools, one in Mayiladuthurai and another in Tirunelveli. I
- Received approval to add 4 more schools in multiple cities.
- Awarded around 74 scholarships for economically weak students amounting approximately ₹ 21 Lakh.
- Around 30 plus students from US completed an internship in the TN schools this summer. This internship program has been well received so far and has been very successful with the US kids.
- The VTK Memorial Fund Education and Service award was bestowed on the top five students out of 38 applicants in multiple categories.
- Worked with Apparel Training Design Center (ATDC) to train around 25 women from economically backward families. These women completed the program in end of June and assisting them to get full time employment for sustainability.

Mani Periakaruppan has served in many roles in multiple charitable organizations, both at a local level and at a national level. At TNF, he has served as Chairperson of the TNF Central Ohio chapter, and as a General Director and Vice President (Chapters) in the TNF USA board. As a Convention Coordinator, Mani successfully hosted the TNF 43rd annual convention in Columbus, Ohio. His service outside TNF includes,
- Treasurer and President of Columbus Tamil Sangam
- Playing a vital role in establishing Tamil schools in Columbus.
- Director, Vice-President & President of American Tamil Acaemy
- Founding member of American Institute of Tamil language, a registered non-profit organization dedicated to teaching and learning of Tamil language with a new approach.

ABC year off to a great start
|
Government High School, Tharuvai, Tirunelveli district and Panchayat Union Middle School, Allivilagam, Mayiladuthurai district join the growing list of TNF's ABC school giving a great start for the academic year 2023-24.
Washington DC Chapter added the Tharuvai school to its portfolio this year in addition to the Government Higher Secondary School, Vannikonethal. Ms J Perachiselvi has been appointed as the teacher for the new ABC school.
A donor from Boston USA, who had been supporting Government Higher Secondary School, Korukkai has spread their reach to the school at Allivilagam.

ABC Teachers undergo refresher training
|
Teaching methodology continues to evolve every year and getting trained in them helps teachers improve their efficiency and provide a focused coaching for ABC students. With the technical support of Chinmaya education cell, 128 ABC project teachers and 14 ABC project coordinators are undergoing a refresher training in the months of July & August.
The first batch comprising of 32 teachers & 4 project coordinators from Tenkasi, Tirunelveli, Thoothukuudi, Sivagangai, Theni, Ramanathapuram & Dindigul districts underwent the training in Madurai district on 4th & 5th of July.
The second batch comprising of 31 teachers 4 project coordinators from Cuddalore, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Thiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai & Pudukottai district underwent the training in Trichy on 6th & 7th of July.
Two more batches are in progress during this week respectively in Chennai & Salem for 65 teachers & 6 project coordinators from Chennai, Kancheepuram, Thiruvannamalai, Vellore, Ranipet, Coimbatore, Tirupur, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Namakkal, Karur and Salem districts.
