Namakkal District

The name Namakkal derives from Namagiri, which is the name of the single rock formation at the center of the town. The fort over the rock was built by Thiru Ramachandra Naicker, a small king who ruled Namakkal during the reign of Thirumalai Nayak of Madurai in 17th century. Mahatma Gandhi held a public meeting in 1933 in Namakkal under the slope of the Namakkal rock.

Namakkal is the India’s 2nd biggest egg producing region (producing 3 crore eggs per day) and is also called “Poultry Town”. A wide variety of crops are grown within the district and the main crop is Tapioca. The economy of the district was primarily agricultural, but  today it has changed to lorries, educational institutions, poultry farms and real estate business. The northern portion of Namakkal is  mountainous and the southern areas are plains. The chief rivers run through the district are Cauvery, Aiyaru, Karipottan Aaru and Thirumanimutharu.

sister district

TNF Michigan Chapter has adopted Namakkal as the sister district.

ABC project was  initiated in six schools in Namakkal District on February 6, 2015.  Four of the six adopted schools are government tribal residential schools in the Kollimalai area.

Total number of  students from the six adopted schools who are  benefitting from TNF-ABC classes – 2290

TNF has  reiterated  the importance of continued education with the ABC Special Coaching Classes during the challenging Covid-19 pandemic environment. TNF teachers resorted to conducting classes to Government school students (ABC & Non-ABC) in common, ventilated places accessing smart phones, laptops and TV, without compromising the prescribed safety guidelines.

Even in challenging times, our mission of strengthening education, empowering youth, improving health and hygiene, facilitating rural development and ensuring women empowerment continues to support the people of Namakkal district.

Educating one underprivileged is more meritorious than establishing thousands of food banks and building thousands of temples – Tamil Poet Bharathiyar

Please get involved and donate to create lasting change alongside underprivileged children and communities.
